Tourism Ministry Held Tourism Development Seminar in Medan
Jakarta. The Ministry of Tourism held a seminar on North Sumatra tourism development at Aryaduta Hotel Medan, North Sumatra, on Saturday (25/11).
Among the speakers of the seminar was Sofyan Tan, member of Indonesian Parliament.
In his greeting Sofyan explained that geographically North Sumatera is strategically located in the international sailing route, Malaka Strait that is close with Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
"Accelerating infrastructure development is the key to improve welfare, such as hotels, restaurants, tourism attractions, and human resources," he said on Saturday.
Sofyan added that North Sumatera now has 10 national strategic projects, one of which is the development of transportation, power, and clear water in Lake Toba area.
Tourism Ministry representative Tazbir said that the ministry is accelerating the development of tourism in North Sumatera with Lake Toba as the icon.
"Lake Toba is well known tourism destination so it is relatively easier to brand, whether it is the nature, the culture, and even the MICE [Meeting Incentive Conference & Exhibition] tourism," said Tazbir.
