Greenpeace activists climbed the Selamat Datang ("Welcome") statue at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta on Wednesday morning to put up two huge posters with the slogans "Good People Choose Good Energy" and "Fight Forest Destroyers" and #ReformasiDikorupsi ("Reformasi Is Being Corrupted"), a hashtag that has been doing the rounds since a series of huge student demonstrations rocked the capital last month.
The posters alluded to forest fires that keep burning in Sumatra and Kalimantan, many reportedly started by palm oil companies clearing peatland for their plantations. The stunt was also aimed at President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo who at around the same time was announcing his new cabinet at the nearby State Palace.
