Conservation Agency Receives Evidence for Sumatran Elephant Hunting Case
The Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA Riau) received the skull and ivory tusk of a Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) from the District Court last month. The elephant's carcass were evidences in a hunting case .
Last year, the critically endangered mammal fell victim to hunting in Kelayang, Indragiri Hulu regency, Riau. The Rengat District Court later sentenced two elephant poachers to three years in prison, as well as a Rp 100 million ($6,997) fine or a subsidiary imprisonment of six months.
