Jakarta. Digital lending platform Kredivo has donated $100,000 to Genomik Solidaritas Indonesia (GSI), a private institution that runs paid coronavirus diagnostic tests and is among the country’s biggest testing facilities.

The donation allowed GSI Lab to provide more than 2,000 free polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based tests in Jakarta, the hardest hit by the Indonesian outbreak, on Tuesday.

Indonesia has recorded 1.3 million confirmed cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began -- Jakarta is home to more than 25 percent of cases countrywide.

GSI Lab, which claims to have a capacity of 5,000 PCR tests per day, has earned support from the government who is still struggling to meet the World Health Organization’s minimum test number.

Indonesia needs to test at least 267,000 people per week to meet the WHO requirement.
