Indonesia Celebrates 74 Years of Independence

Millions of Indonesians across the archipelago celebrated Independence Day on Saturday by participating in parades and traditional games.

Residents of Petamburan, Central Jakarta, competed in clog races, tug-of-war and cracker-eating contests, while there were pillow fights and pole-walking competitions under the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu Elevated Toll Road in East Jakarta. Onlookers lined up along the banks of the Kalimalang River to watch the action, which took place between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
