Millions of Indonesians across the archipelago celebrated Independence Day on Saturday by participating in parades and traditional games.
Residents of Petamburan, Central Jakarta, competed in clog races, tug-of-war and cracker-eating contests, while there were pillow fights and pole-walking competitions under the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu Elevated Toll Road in East Jakarta. Onlookers lined up along the banks of the Kalimalang River to watch the action, which took place between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
