Indonesia Starts Second Stage of Covid-19 Mass Vaccination
Jakarta. Indonesia launched the second round of mass vaccination against coronavirus on Wednesday aiming 38.5 million citizens for the next three months.
The campaign began at Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, where more than 9,700 traders and other workers have registered for free vaccination using the vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech since the registration was opened.
Registered persons stood in line waiting for their shots on the 8th and 12th floors of Tanah Abang Market, the country’s biggest cloth retail center. They have to undergo medical checkup to make sure they don’t have issue with underlying conditions. Once vaccinated, they must wait for 30 minutes to monitor any possible side effects.
The event was attended by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, who was accompanied by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
The President walked around the vaccination site and stopped occasionally to have chats with traders.
The Health Ministry announced earlier that the current vaccination drive targets 38.5 million people, including 16.9 million workers in public sectors and 21.6 million elderly citizens.
