Jakarta. Jakarta Fashion Week 2020 kicked off on Tuesday at Senayan City Mall in South Jakarta and will go on until Monday, Oct. 28. The biggest fashion event in Indonesia carries the theme "Celebrating Indonesia" this year, with over 75 fashion shows from more than 270 local and international brands and designers promised to wow local fashionistas.
"The fashion industry is massive. We want to be a catalyst to tie up the whole ecosystem and boost the industry in Indonesia," Svida Alisjahbana, the chairwoman of Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) said on Tuesday.
Some of the big names at JFW 2020 include Albert Yanuar, Peggy Hartanto, BYO, Jenahara, Danjyo Hiyoji, Oscar Lawalata and Natalia Kintoro. Around 2,800 new collections will be on show throughout the event.
International designers will take turns to light up the runway at JFW 2020, most of them brought in by the British Council, Japan Fashion Week Organization, Korea Model Association and Korea Creative Content Agency.
The South Koreans include Seokwoon Yoon and SETSETSET and the Japanese contingent includes Enharmonic Tavern, Rieka Inoue and Yoakeh.
Along with trunk shows, JFW 2020 also has the Fashionlink Showroom and Market where visitors can buy wearable products from the designers. This event will be on from Tuesday to Saturday.
"I hope JFW can keep producing new designers and labels with our mentorship and Fashionlink programs," Svida said.
JFW 2020 is part of Indonesia Creative Week, a campaign to support the creative industry. Other events in the campaign are Brightspot, IdeaFest and the Jakarta Culinary Festival.
