Prabowo-Sandi's Aceh Safari
Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Salahudin Uno visited Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh province, last Friday.
Prabowo and Sandi, which projected a pro-Muslim stance during their presidential campaign, won by a landslide against rivals President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin in Aceh, a province that practises Shariah law.
The former general and billionaire won a whopping 91 percent of the total votes in Aceh, often called "Mecca's Porch" for its large population of Muslims who have gone on the hajj pilgrimage.
This is Prabowo's and Sandi's first trip together since quick count results of the election were released last month. According to them, the pair lost heavily, winning only around 45 percent of the total votes.
Nevertheless, Prabowo has refused to concede defeat and has independently proclaimed victory at least four times.
Prabowo and Sandi had a busy schedule in Aceh: meeting supporters, attending a Friday prayer at Banda Aceh's famous Baiturrahman Mosque, being presented with traditional Acehnese woven fabrics by a troupe of guel dancers and eating a traditional beef curry at a meugang ceremony.
