The Three Dewi Fashion Knights of Jakarta Fashion Week 2021

Jakarta. Three phenomenal Indonesian designers — Lulu Lutfi Labibi, Chitra Subiyakto with her Sejauh Mata Memandang label, and Toton — became the Dewi Fashion Knights of Jakarta Fashion Week 2021. The trio's showcase marks the peak of Indonesia's largest fashion week event.
Lulu Lutfi Labibi, a Yogyakarta-born fashion designer, turns lurik — a Javanese traditional textile — into a ready-to-wear using modern draping techniques. His collections embrace the Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfections. As a knight, Lulu showed his latest works, which were inspired by Joko Pinurbo's poetry. The poem tells the spiritual message in cloth and fabric translated into daily activities and habits.
This is not the first time for Sejauh Mata Memandang (SMM) to be a Dewi Fashion Knight. The label had the chance to show their masterpieces as a knight in Jakarta Fashion Week 2019. SMM has always been known for its environmental campaigns. For this year's collection, SMM breathed new life into their deadstock materials and leftover convection fabrics.
Meanwhile, Toton gives a touch of culture and religion for his Spring/Summer 2021 Collection. The designs were inspired by the statues of Hindu and Buddhist relics. The relics are not only statues but also religious symbols and historical landmarks that symbolize prayer and hope.
