Jakarta. Sandiaga Uno, the running mate of Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan, has denied any wrongdoing related to embezzlement allegation against him.

The Jakarta Police have summoned him to testify as a witness on Tuesday (21/03) in an investigation involving alleged misappropriation of funds in a Rp 7 billion ($527,000) land transaction in 2012.

However, the businessman-turned-politician has yet to decide whether he would comply with the summons.

"[I will find out] whether I should go, or whether I can be represented [by my lawyers]. My schedules are tight, with only 29 days of campaigning left. I will consult with my legal team," Sandiaga said on Monday. He added that he preferred to meet with potential voters instead of testifying.

According to a statement by Sandiaga's legal counsel, the case was a misunderstanding between two friends due to political differences.

"I have hoped for a legal decision related to the case involving two old friends to be resolved amicably, as it was only a misunderstanding," Sandiaga said.

"I wish to make peace between the two parties and unite those who have been separated due to different political views. Do not allow politics to stand in the way. It is a common dispute and it should not be overexposed," he added.

He was also questioned by the Tanah Abang Police on Friday over allegations of defamation. At the time, he told reporters that the accusations were also based on a mere misunderstanding.

Sandiaga and Anies will face incumbent pair Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat in the second round of the Jakarta gubernatorial election on April 19.
