4 in 5 EVs Sold in Indonesia Are Chinese Brands: Association
Jakarta. Chinese electric vehicle brands have been dominating the Indonesian market since early this year, controlling around 80 percent of the market share, the industry association said on Friday.
Between January and July, Indonesia witnessed 17,800 EV sales, more than double what they were in the same period last year, according to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).
Of every five EVs sold, four carried Chinese brands such as Wuling, BYD, Chery, and Neta.
During the seven-month period, BYD, which launched its Indonesian operation only recently, sold 3,500 EVs. Chery managed to sell more than 3,000 EVs thanks to the Omoda E5 model.
