Jakarta. The Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area on the northern coast of Jakarta is set to become a vital hub for Indonesia's hospitality and tourism sectors, with several new hotels and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities under construction to enhance the region's appeal and economic growth.

The hospitality industry, a cornerstone of Indonesian tourism, continues to expand in the 2.650-hectare superblock, which includes developments in transportation, entertainment, food and beverage, and health sectors.

Ryan Adrian, the Commercial, Convention & Exhibition Director of Agung Sedayu Group, emphasized the need for more hospitality options in the area, saying, “There are only six hotels in PIK, and that's not enough because it is near the airport, where the average occupancy is quite high. We are building new hotels and restaurants from abroad and from within the country to add to the collection of hospitality products.”

This initiative was highlighted during the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2024, themed "Hospitality Industry: A New Driving Force for Indonesia's Economic Growth."

Ryan acknowledged that improvements are necessary to elevate the quality of tourism in PIK. He said, “PIK is moving organically; now we have expanded to PIK 2 and later it will reach PIK 9.”

In addition to expanding accommodation options, PIK is exploring new business tourism opportunities. According to Ryan, the MICE industry is rapidly growing in Southeast Asia, and Indonesia is poised to benefit significantly from this trend.

“That's why we see the opportunity to build MICE. This development is expected not only to attract domestic and foreign events but also to stimulate people to create events,” he explained.

Four key facilities are set to be built simultaneously in PIK 2:

  1. NICE (Nusantara International Convention Exhibition): A 40-hectare venue.
  2. Community Park: Currently operational and hosting major international and local music festivals.
  3. Spike: An innovative air dome technology venue, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, scheduled to open in February 2025.
  4. Miami Circuit: A venue for automotive enthusiasts to watch and participate in local and national racing events weekly.

Additionally, an Ecopark is under construction in PIK 2, spanning 60 hectares as a religious tourism area that will include places of worship for all faiths, from monasteries and grand mosques to cathedrals and supporting ecosystems.

“Hopefully, with these existing venues, we will stimulate many activities, especially in the creative industry, including the MICE industry and entertainment in Indonesia,” Ryan concluded.
