Finance Ministry Extends Tax Filing Deadline to End-April Amid Coretax Issues
Jakarta. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has extended the deadline for individual taxpayers to file their annual tax returns to the end of April 2026, citing ongoing issues with the government’s Coretax system.
The extension gives taxpayers an additional month from the usual March deadline, aligning the filing deadline for individuals with that of corporate taxpayers.
Purbaya said the decision was taken after identifying persistent problems with the Coretax platform, ranging from flawed initial design to a user interface that remains difficult to navigate.
“There are still issues with the Coretax system. Some users experience loops when trying to access the service, so we are giving an extension if needed,” he said on Wednesday.
He added that a circular letter would be issued to formalize the new deadline of April 30, 2026.
Purbaya acknowledged that the challenges go beyond technical glitches, pointing instead to structural weaknesses in the system’s design. He said the platform is not user-friendly and uses terminology that is difficult for taxpayers to understand.
The minister also raised concerns about third-party software services that link certain users — particularly large corporations — to the Coretax system, potentially allowing faster access compared to the standard public interface.
“I’m aware that some software makes access smoother. Many large companies use it, which raises questions about equal access,” he said.
Data from the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) showed that as of March 24, 2026, at 24:00 WIB, a total of 8,874,904 annual tax returns had been filed.
Individual salaried taxpayers accounted for the majority with 7,826,341 filings, followed by 863,272 filings from non-salaried individuals.
Meanwhile, the number of taxpayers who have activated their Coretax accounts reached 16,723,354 as of the same date. This includes 15,677,209 individual taxpayers, 955,508 corporate taxpayers, 90,411 government institutions, and 226 e-commerce (PMSE) taxpayers.
The extension is expected to ease compliance pressures while the government works to address shortcomings in the Coretax system.
