Jakarta. Indonesia’s tax revenue rose by around 30% year on year in January, reflecting improving domestic economic conditions, but a large-scale rotation of tax officials will proceed as part of internal reforms, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Indonesia Economic Summit in Jakarta, Purbaya said preliminary figures showed a strong start to the year for tax collection.

“The latest numbers we have received show net tax revenue in January grew 30%,” he said, without disclosing an exact figure.

Based on Finance Ministry data, tax revenue in January 2025 stood at Rp 88.89 trillion ($5.3 billion). Applying the reported growth rate, January 2026 tax receipts are estimated to have exceeded Rp 115.55 trillion ($6.9 billion).

The Finance Ministry has been tasked with collecting Rp 2,357.7 trillion in tax revenue this year, a key pillar of the government’s fiscal strategy.

To support that target, Purbaya said the ministry plans to rotate around 70 officials within the Directorate General of Taxes, potentially as early as Thursday this week.

The reshuffle follows the tax authority’s failure to meet its revenue target in 2025 and comes amid heightened scrutiny of tax officials’ integrity, after three senior officers at the North Jakarta tax office were arrested on bribery allegations.

Purbaya said the rotations are part of broader efforts to strengthen governance and restore public trust in the tax administration, alongside measures to improve compliance and revenue performance.
