Kebumen, Central Java. South Korean investor JJG Spotec Indo has officially begun construction of a new glove and garment factory in Kebumen, Central Java. The Rp 74 billion ($4.5 million) project is expected to create more than 2,300 jobs and boost local economic growth in one of the province’s least-developed regions.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place Monday in Purbowangi village, Buayan district. The event was attended by Kebumen Regent Lilis Nuryani, Regional Legislative Council Chairman Saman Halim Nurrohman, and JJG Spotec Indo CEO Jin Yinggen.

“This groundbreaking represents a historic moment for Kebumen,” said Lilis. “The presence of this foreign investor shows that Kebumen is a potential and conducive region for industrial development. We hope this factory will provide jobs for thousands of residents and improve local welfare.”

Lilis said the local government fully supports the project and is expediting all necessary permits. She emphasized that the administration is committed to maintaining a healthy investment climate that benefits both investors and residents while balancing industrial growth and environmental protection.

“This is a proud moment for us. Having a foreign investor in Kebumen marks a new chapter in our local economy,” she said. “We hope that with projects like this, Kebumen will no longer be among Central Java’s poorest regions.”

The Kebumen Investment and One-Stop Service Agency (DPMPTS) confirmed the project is the regency’s first foreign direct investment (FDI) from South Korea. The factory’s construction is expected to take around six months, with operations slated to begin by August 2026.

“God willing, construction will be completed within six months, and around 2,300 workers will be hired in the initial production phase,” said DPMPTS head Sukamto.

JJG Spotec Indo CEO Jin Yinggen said the company is proud to collaborate with the Kebumen administration and hopes the project will proceed smoothly. “This groundbreaking marks the beginning of our cooperation with the local government. We are proud to be working with this region,” Jin said.

The factory will primarily produce industrial and sports gloves, with an estimated annual capacity of 3.6 million units. It will also manufacture 2.4 million units of garments such as shirts, pants, socks, vests, jackets, and bags.
