Jakarta. Consumer electronics company Polytron introduced a light-duty electric scooter model priced at Rp 9 million ($580), complemented by a government subsidy, in Jakarta on Monday.

The Fox-S is purpose-built for daily commutes of less than 60 kilometers on standard terrains. To address concerns about battery wear and environmental impact, Polytron offers a battery lease program at Rp 125,000 per month, underscoring its commitment to minimizing battery waste.

"The battery lease system for the Fox-S is a practical approach aimed at mitigating battery degradation risks, ensuring complete coverage against potential damages," Polytron's commercial director Tekno Wibowo said.

The Fox-S boasts a 70-kilometer range on a full charge, equipped with energy-efficient full LED lights, and is available in four distinctive colors: red, black, grey, and yellow.

It's designed for small tasks like taking the kid to school or shopping at a nearby convenience store, Tekno said.

Tekno said that deliveries to buyers are slated to start next month.

The government provides an incentive of Rp 7 million for each purchase of locally-manufactured electric motorcycles. This subsidy is specifically targeted at benefiting low-income families and small businesses, promoting accessibility to eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
