Jakarta. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, widely known as Ahok, and his wife Puput Nastiti Devi are celebrating the birth of their third child, a baby girl named Regina Welasih Purnama.

The child was born at RS Pondok Indah in South Jakarta, Ahok said in a post on his Instagram account on Friday.

“Thank you to Dr. Aswin, Dr. Christoph, Dr. Yovita, as well as the midwives and nurses at @rspondokindah who helped with the delivery of our daughter, Regina Welasih Purnama,” Ahok wrote on his social media, @basukibtp on Instagram.

He explained that the name Regina Welasih carries a deeper meaning. “Regina Welasih means a queen or leader with a compassionate heart. Love that is born from sincere concern for the happiness and suffering of others,” he said.

Ahok added that the name is also a prayer for his daughter’s future. “This name is our prayer that Regina will grow into a person who leads with love, courage, and empathy, and brings hope for the presence of compassionate leaders for the nation and its people,” he said.

Ahok is a prominent political figure who began his public career as governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands from 2007 to 2012. He later served as Jakarta’s deputy governor between 2012 and 2014 before assuming the capital’s top post as governor from 2014 to 2017. After leaving elected office, he was appointed president director of state-owned oil and gas holding company Pertamina from 2019 to 2024, where he was known for pushing governance and transparency reforms.

Ahok and Puput previously welcomed two children, Yosafat Abimanyu Purnama and Sarah Eliana Purnama, with Sarah born in 2021. From his previous marriage to Veronica Tan, Ahok also has three children: Nicholas Sean Purnama, Nathania Berniece Zhong, and Daud Albeenner Purnama.
