Anti-Graft Agency Arrests Judge in Depok Bribery Probe
Jakarta. Indonesia’s anti-corruption watchdog on Thursday arrested a law enforcement official in Depok, West Java, in an operation linked to suspected bribery involving an ongoing court case.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed the arrest but did not immediately disclose the suspect’s identity. Witnesses said the individual is a judge serving as deputy chief of the Depok District Court.
KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto said investigators had also seized “hundreds of millions of rupiah” at the scene, believed to be bribe money.
Fitroh added that the alleged bribe was connected to the handling of a legal case currently being heard at the Depok court, but declined to provide further details as the investigation is still underway.
A witness who asked not to be named said the arrest took place at around 8 p.m.
“Someone was taken into custody at about 8 tonight. The operation is over now,” the witness said near the Depok court complex.
