Companies to Pay Rp 220b in Eid Bonuses to 850,000 Ride-Hailing Drivers
Jakarta. Ride-hailing companies will disburse Rp 220 billion ($13 million) in religious holiday bonuses to around 850,000 app-based drivers ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026, the government announced on Tuesday, marking a twofold increase from last year’s payout.
Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto said the figure reflects commitments made by major transportation platforms following intensive coordination with the government and other stakeholders.
“BHR this year will cover approximately 850,000 driver-partners with a total value of Rp 220 billion. This is double compared to 2025, which was in the range of Rp 105-110 billion,” Airlangga told reporters at his office.
The bonuses — known as Bonus Hari Raya (BHR) — will be funded and distributed by the companies, not the state budget. The government has urged firms to channel the payments earlier, between 14 days and at the latest seven days before Eid, which is expected to fall in the third week of March.
According to Airlangga, active two-wheeler drivers are estimated to receive around Rp 150,000 per person, while four-wheeler drivers are expected to get approximately Rp 200,000 each. The actual amount may vary depending on performance indicators set by each platform.
Major platforms including GoTo and Grab have set aside Rp 100 billion combined for this year’s program, up from Rp 50 billion in 2025. Around 400,000 driver-partners are expected to receive bonuses from the two companies.
Maxim has expanded its BHR coverage to 51,000 drivers from about 1,000 last year, while inDrive will provide bonuses to 500 partners. The amount each driver receives will vary depending on company policies and performance metrics.
At the same event, Manpower Minister Yassierli said the religious holiday bonus must be paid in cash at a minimum of 25% of a driver’s average net income over the past 12 months. He urged app-based companies to ensure transparency in calculating and communicating the BHR amount to drivers and couriers.
Yassierli added that the bonus is granted to drivers and couriers who have been officially registered with app companies over the past year. Payment is mandatory no later than seven days before Lebaran, although the government has encouraged companies to disburse the funds earlier than the deadline.
The announcement comes as gig workers continue to push for parity with formal-sector employees, who traditionally receive a holiday allowance equivalent to one month’s salary before Idulfitri, the peak travel and spending season in Indonesia.
The Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI), recently said many ride-hailing drivers received only Rp 50,000 ($2.97) in bonuses last year — far below the Rp 1 million that had been widely expected.
In addition to the bonuses, the government said ride-hailing drivers are covered by work accident and death benefits through the state employment insurance program, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, as part of broader efforts to strengthen social protection for gig workers.
