Family and Party Solidarity on Display at PDI-P Gathering
Jakarta. Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), shared a rare public moment of family warmth with her two children during the party’s National Working Meeting in Jakarta on Sunday.
Megawati was embraced and kissed simultaneously by her son, Prananda Prabowo, and her daughter, Puan Maharani, symbolizing both family closeness and internal party unity. The moment took place at the Beach City International Stadium in Ancol, North Jakarta.
The emotional scene followed Megawati’s participation — alongside her children — in a videoconference dialogue with residents affected by recent floods and landslides in Aceh, as well as the launch of her book Spirit of Humanity (Spirit Kemanusiaan).
Puan, who currently serves as speaker of the House of Representatives, is widely viewed as a leading potential successor to Megawati within PDI-P. Prananda, while less visible in national politics, holds the position of head of the party’s creative economy division.
During the dialogue with disaster victims, Megawati stressed the importance of swift response in handling humanitarian emergencies. She specifically urged that basic necessities for infants and toddlers — such as diapers and milk — be distributed without delay.
“If there are still shortages, please inform us immediately so I can provide and send the supplies as quickly as possible,” Megawati said.
As part of its disaster response, PDI-P has deployed the medical ship Laksamana Malahayati to assist victims of flooding and landslides in Aceh.
During the videoconference, a woman holding her child expressed gratitude for the assistance received aboard the party-operated medical vessel.
“Thank you, Mrs. Megawati. Today I received a health check, extra vitamins, and gifts from PDI-P,” she said.
The woman also explained that her eldest child, who attends senior high school, had not yet returned to class because the school building was still being cleaned after the flooding.
Megawati responded by pledging to push for the prioritization of school clean-up efforts, saying children should be able to resume their education as soon as possible.
