Jakarta. Golkar Party is closely following behind the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in the 2024 legislative elections. The surge in the party's vote share is credited to its support for Gerindra Party's Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, in the 2024 presidential campaign.

Meutya Hafid, the Chairperson of the Golkar Party's Central Executive Board, highlighted four factors contributing to Golkar's success in the 2024 elections.

"Firstly, we got an electoral effect from Mr. Prabowo and Mr. Gibran," said Meutya after the inauguration of the National Defense Center Hospital (RSPPN) Panglima Besar Soedirman in South Jakarta on Monday.

As of Monday, Prabowo is still in the lead over their two opponents --Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo--. Prabowo currently holds a substantial lead with approximately 55.32 million votes or around 58 percent.

Secondly, Golkar's message advocating for the continuation of Jokowi's program has resonated with the public, playing a pivotal role in the surge of voter support.

"We also emphasized Mr. Jokowi's success as the president. Therefore, I believe that Golkar's narrative of continuity can attract significant support because we are dedicated to advocating for continuity," she said.

A poll by the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) of Denny JA in January indicated that 80.8 percent of respondents are satisfied with the performance of President Jokowi in his final year in office.

Thirdly, Airlangga Hartarto's leadership as the Chairman of the Golkar Party is one of the main factors behind Golkar's success in this legislative election. Fourthly, the dedication of Golkar's cadres also played a crucial role.

Established during the New Order era under former President Suharto in 1964, Golkar is one of the prominent political parties in Indonesia.

Data from over 400,000 polling stations, representing approximately 56.5 percent of all polling stations nationwide, have been processed by the KPU. Initial results show that PDI-P is leading with 10.63 million votes, constituting around 16.15 percent. Following closely are the Golkar Party with 9.47 million votes (14.38 percent) and Gerindra with 8.32 million votes (12.65 percent), both supporting Prabowo. In the 2019 election, Golkar won 17 million votes (12.3 percent).
