Blitar, East Java. Indonesian immigration authorities have deported three Pakistani nationals who claimed to be investors but were unable to demonstrate any legitimate business activity in East Java, officials said on Tuesday.

The case was handled by the East Java Immigration Office after residents in Tulungagung reported the presence of several foreign nationals who said they were investors, but whose activities appeared inconsistent with those claims.

Aditya Nursanto, head of the local immigration office, said the public complaints prompted authorities to conduct further checks into the activities of the three men.

“We initially received reports from residents in Tulungagung about Pakistani nationals claiming to be investors and residing in the area. After further examination, it turned out their activities did not reflect what they had claimed,” Aditya said.

The three men were living together in a rented house but showed no clear signs of investment activity. During questioning, they were unable to explain their business plans, identify any registered companies, or specify where their supposed investments would be carried out.

“They said they intended to invest, but being an investor requires clarity — where the investment is, what company is involved. After we looked into it, they had none of that,” Aditya said.

Immigration checks found that the three individuals had been staying in Indonesia for less than one year and were engaged in identical activities while residing at the same location.

“Based on these violations, we summoned them and imposed immigration administrative sanctions,” Aditya said.

The identities of the three foreigners were only provided in their initials.

The immigration office also urged the public to continue reporting suspicious foreign nationals or activities that do not match the conditions of their stay permits, stressing that community participation plays a crucial role in maintaining public order and preventing immigration violations.

“Public involvement greatly assists us in monitoring foreign nationals. Every report will be followed up in accordance with applicable regulations,” Aditya said.
