Iran Rejects Ceasefire Proposal and Insists on Permanent End to War
Iran has rejected the latest ceasefire proposal and wants a permanent end to the war, the state-run IRNA news agency said Monday.
The response comes as US President Donald Trump’s deadline looms — Tuesday night Washington time — for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with the president threatening to hit Iran’s power plants and other infrastructure targets.
The agency said the Iranian government had conveyed its response to the United States through Pakistan, a key mediator.
“We won’t merely accept a ceasefire,” Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, head of the Iranian diplomatic mission in Cairo, said on Monday. “We only accept an end of the war with guarantees that we won’t be attacked again.”
