Iran War Suspends Middle East Flights at Jakarta Airport
Jakarta. Several major airlines have suspended Middle East-bound flights at the Jakarta airport, following Iran war-induced airspace closures.
On Saturday morning local time, Israel and the US launched a joint attack against Iran, marking a major escalation in the failed nuclear negotiations. Tehran later fired retaliatory strikes targeting multiple Arab states that host US assets. Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates are on this list. All have shut down their airspaces in the aftermath.
The latest developments have led to flight cancellations at Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
According to the airport’s spokesperson Aziz Fahmi Harahap, the affected flights are as follows:
-
Etihad Airways (EY472 to Abu Dhabi)
-
Qatar Airways (QR954 to Doha)
-
Qatar Airways (QR957 to Doha)
-
Emirates (EK357 to Dubai)
-
Etihad Airways (EY475 to Abu Dhabi)
-
Garuda Indonesia (GA900 to Doha)
-
Etihad Airways (EY473 to Abu Dhabi)
Inbound flights Etihad Airways EY 472 (Abu Dhabi-Jakarta) and Qatar Airways QR 954 (Doha-Jakarta) are also canceled.
“Affected passengers are being handled according to established procedures, including canceling travel documents at the immigration,” Aziz said.
The airport will also be in coordination with the aforementioned airlines to arrange accommodation and reschedule flights.
“We urge passengers who wish to travel to the Middle East to actively keep an eye on the flight updates via the respective airlines’ official channels or by contacting their customer service,” Aziz said.
Tourist hotspot Bali also reported similar flight cancellations at its airport.
