Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto landed in Amman on Tuesday night for his upcoming talks with Jordanian King Abdullah II.

The leaders’ meeting is slated for Wednesday local time, although Jakarta has yet to disclose the details on what would be high up on the agenda. However, the government has said that both sides will sign a series of deals across different sectors.

Prabowo has repeatedly talked of his close friendship with Abdullah II, as the Indonesian leader had resided in Jordan back in the late 1990s. Just a few months ago, Prabowo hosted Abdullah II in Jakarta, where he also talked about how the latter’s late father welcomed him.

“I have an emotional bond with Jordan. His Majesty [Abdullah II] and His Majesty King Hussein kindly received me … [about] 27 years [ago]. I always remember, fondly, my years in Jordan,” Prabowo told Abdullah II during his Jakarta visit on Nov.14, 2025.

Abdullah II also called Prabowo a "dear brother" and “old friend” at the time.

A December 1998 New York Times article even wrote that Jordan had offered Prabowo citizenship, which the latter declined. Indonesia does not recognize dual citizenship.

The last time Prabowo came to Jordan was back in April 2025.

Despite the leaders’ close-knit ties, the annual Indonesia-Jordan trade had slowed to $710.7 million in 2025, down from $921.7 million in 2024. Southeast Asia’s biggest economy mainly shipped jewelry throughout last year, with exports amounting to $366.1 million. Indonesia’s surplus shrank from $487.6 million in 2024 to $369 million in 2025.
