Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto recently called Muslim leaders, including his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and old friend Jordanian King Abdullah II, to extend Eid wishes.

Prabowo also had separate phone conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed bin Salman. 

“As we embrace Eid, President Prabowo is making phone calls to the leaders of Muslim nations. … He will contact other world leaders in the near future,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said over the weekend.

Teddy went on to say that these calls also aimed to strengthen “bilateral ties”. This also cemented Indonesia’s role as the world’s largest Muslim-majority country in bridging global partnerships. 

Indonesia and the aforementioned foreign partners are part of the Board of Peace. This is a multilateral mechanism led by US President Donald Trump that aims to promote peacekeeping and reconstruction in the war-torn Gaza. 

Prabowo has also traveled to the four said countries, with two trips to Jordan. Prabowo has repeatedly talked of his close friendship with Abdullah II. The Indonesian leader had even resided in Jordan back in the late 1990s.
