Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto recently extended Eid greetings to his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas over the phone.

Prabowo also had similar phone calls with other Muslim-majority nation leaders, including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The same goes for Emirati leader Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

"This communication [with the leaders] is a prayer and good hope for maintaining closeness, support, and strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially during this meaningful holiday," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said.

Teddy went on to say that the phone call demonstrated Prabowo’s support for the Palestinians.

Just recently, Prabowo reaffirmed that the “only solution [to the Gaza crisis] was the two-state solution”. This solution aims to create a separate Palestinian state and that of Israel. Prabowo also assuaged criticisms over Jakarta’s membership in the Board of Peace for Gaza, saying that Jakarta would quit the group if it is “counterproductive”.
